Additional serious injuries to children reported following the March 31, 2006 recall announcement of Magnetix Magnetic Building Sets have prompted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Mega Brands America, Inc. The North American Securities Administrators Association, an association of state regulators, reports that over one-third of all cases of financial exploitation of the elderly involve annuities. Hundreds of class actions have been filed against insurers over annuity sales to the elderly, including one in Minnesota against Allianz for nearly 400,000 plaintiffs. Index based annuities are not regulated by the NASD, so there is no federal oversight over their sale. Bias In Statin Drug Company Studies

A study, comparing head-to-head clinical trials of cholesterol-lowering drugs, found that the pharmaceutical co that paid for the trial overwhelmingly came out on top. The researchers found favorable results were 20 times more likely when a drugs maker funded the study. Results of the study, conducted by scientists from the University of California San Francisco, were based on data from of 192 clinical trials.
