Every day insurance companies underpay claims for damage to cars and try to better their bottom line when negotiating with people who are injured through no fault of their own and who do not understand the law. We understand insurance coverage, Colorado motor vehicle law, car accident law, the mechanism of motor vehicle accidents, evidence and trial practice, and the human dynamics that are critical to successfully handing car accident cases.
Every day we represent good people from Denver, and Colorado who simply wanted to be treated respectfully and fairly after a car accident, and they were not. We represent not only the victims of automobile accidents, but also commercial trucking, motorcycle, bike, pedestrian, and drunk driving accidents as well.
Auto Accident Check List
Here are some SIMPLE rules to help you understand what to do immediately after and in the days following an auto accident.
Immediately at the accident scene, you should:
- Remain calm, and if you need help call a family member or friend.
- If possible, stop in a safe place out of traffic.
- Check if anyone needs immediate medical care. If you need help, ask for help.
- Call 911 and ask for the police and an ambulance if necessary.
- Get the other driver's name, address, and telephone number and vehicle registration number.
- If you believe the other driver is drunk, tell the police.
- Get the names, addresses, and phone numbers of any witnesses.
- Ask the police officer for the police report number and where and when a copy will be available.
- Seek prompt medical attention if needed.
In the days following a Denver auto accident:
- Contact your insurance company. Get a copy of your insurance Declarations Page and Policy so that you will know what coverage you have. Get your claim number and the name and address of the adjuster.
- Do not speak or give recorded statements to the insurance company for the other driver. Instead, tell the insurance company representative to call your Auto Accident and Personal Injury Attorney.
- Do not sign releases for medical records until you have consulted with an Auto Accident and Personal Injury Attorney. Colorado law limits the amount of medical information that you have to provide, and a personal injury attorney can made sure that your medical information remains confidential.
- Have someone take photos of the cars and any skid marks on the road before they fade.
- Keep a list of the names, addresses, and phone numbers where you have received medical treatment.
- Keep copies of all of your medical bills.
