Colorado Cefazolin Lawyers:
Contaminated Cefazolin

There was a recent health risk posed by a batch of contaminated Cefazolin. A large batch of Cefazolin which was prepared by Handford Pharmaceutical, was found to be contaminated with Bacillus pumilus, Staphylococcus hominis, Propionibacterium acnes, or Micrococcus luteus. Patients treated with the contaminated product run the risk of bacterial infection. Because the drug is injected into the bloodstream and infection could occur anywhere in the body, even in the brain. The contaminated shipment has been recalled, but some of it has been used.

On February 28, 2006, the FDA issued an alert of a nationwide recall of Cefazolin, an antibiotic, which is used in hospitals. Cefazolin is being recalled because certain lots of the active ingredient used to manufacture the product "have been shown to contain microbial contamination (Bacillus pumilus, Staphylococcus hominis, Propionibacterium acnes, or Micrococcus luteus) which may pose a serious or life-threatening risk for some patients."

Hospitals, clinics, and users were warned to stop using the affected lots immediately.

The lots are: Sandoz product - C4650, C4537; Watson product - C4689, C4665. They were distributed to hospitals and doctors nation wide.

Cefazolin for Injection, is used to treat skin and skin structure, respiratory, and other infections.

Cefazolin Lawsuit and Legal Rights of Injured Cefazolin Patients

The law in most states provides several personal injury claims for persons who have been seriously injured by a prescription drug with dangerous side effects. These claims include strict liability for a defective product, breach of warranty, and negligence.

Damages sought against pharmaceutical companies for serious injuries due to drug side effects include pain and suffering, disfigurement, permanent impairment, lost wages, medical bills, and at times punitive damages.
