Second-degree burns additionally fill with clear fluid, have blistering of the skin surface, and can involve more or less pain. Second-degree burns involve the superficial and deeper dermis layers.
Third-degree burns involve charring of the skin, and they produce hard, leather-like scabs that separate from the unburned part of the body. Many times, the body will produce purple fluid. These types of burns are often painless because nerve endings have been destroyed in the involved areas.
